The SGS 31244 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in milling operations. Built from micrograin carbide with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers a harder, more wear-resistant cutting edge compared to uncoated tooling. The 4-flute, spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish. With a 0.25-inch cutting diameter, 0.5-inch length of cut, and a 2-inch overall length, this stub-length end mill fits standard tool holders with a 0.25-inch straight cylindrical shank. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose and precision milling of a wide range of materials, including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, nonferrous metals, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub-length profile provides maximum rigidity for applications where chatter control and tight tolerances are critical. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills in tool rooms, job shops, and production environments. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts.
Designed for use with standard 0.25-inch collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the supplier specifications. Part of the SGS Series 16 end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing end mills from the holder. Verify collet or holder bore diameter matches the 0.25-inch shank before clamping, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material being cut.
