The SGS 31220 is a double-end ball end mill designed for precision milling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride), it delivers hardness and heat resistance suitable for high-speed cutting. The cutter measures 0.0625 inches in diameter with a 0.125-inch length of cut, a 0.125-inch shank diameter, and a 1.5-inch overall length. The 4-flute, 30-degree right-hand helix geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in milling machine spindles for fine-detail work.
This end mill is suited for milling small features, contours, and complex 3D profiles in a wide range of workpiece materials. Its AlTiN coating and micrograin carbide substrate make it effective in harder and more abrasive materials. Primary workpiece material codes supported include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering categories such as hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. The stub length designation keeps deflection low when working in tight geometries or shallow pockets.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the SGS Series 14B classification. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tool in CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.125-inch shank collet or chuck.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Secure the 0.125-inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder to the torque specification of the spindle system in use. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut for the 0.125-inch length of cut to avoid tool breakage.
