The SGS 31218 is a solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-precision milling in demanding cutting environments. With a 0.0313-inch mill diameter and a 0.0625-inch length of cut, this tool is built for fine detail work and tight-tolerance machining. The four-flute, double-end design with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when machining hard or abrasive materials. The micrograin carbide substrate supports edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments.
The SGS 31218 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and composite materials. Its stub-length geometry and 0.125-inch shank diameter make it well matched to high-speed spindles with tight reach requirements. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool service intervals. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. Primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering a broad range of steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys.
Designed for use with CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.125-inch shank diameter collet or end mill holder. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the supplier.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the 0.125-inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, ensuring full seating depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, especially at this diameter, where small deviations have an outsized effect on tool life and part accuracy. Consult the machine tool manufacturer and cutting data tables for appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the target workpiece material.
