The SGS 31188 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers extended wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. Center-cutting geometry allows the tool to plunge directly into the workpiece. Machining professionals and tool-room operators use this end mill for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on CNC mills and manual knee mills alike.
This stub-length end mill is suited for applications where rigidity and minimal deflection are priorities. The straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard ER collets, end mill holders, and set-screw tool holders. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life per unit. Applicable workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel alloys, and high-temperature alloys.
Designed for use in standard end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and set-screw holders accepting a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, steel, and high-temperature alloys as designated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, powered-down state before loading or changing tooling. Verify holder runout and collet cleanliness before seating the shank to maintain dimensional accuracy. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
