The SGS 31180 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. Ground from solid micrograin carbide and coated with AlTiN for heat and wear resistance, this tool handles a broad range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and structural steels. It carries a 3/16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/8-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The stub-length profile adds rigidity for applications where overhang must be minimized.
This end mill is suited for milling, slotting, and light contouring operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills. The double-end configuration maximizes tool life per unit, making it practical for high-volume production runs or job-shop environments where tooling cost per cut matters. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional spindle setups. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic chucks sized for 3/16-inch shanks. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pilot hole.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool for CNC and manual milling machines accepting a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank, compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the supplier.
Installation of end mills should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism to the machine and holder specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use, and never exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended feeds and speeds for the workpiece material.
