The SGS 31145 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling of contoured surfaces, slots, and complex 3D profiles. The 0.25 inch cutting diameter and 0.75 inch length of cut (LOC) make it well-suited for detailed work in tight geometries. Three right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. An AlTiN coating adds thermal resistance and extends tool life when cutting harder or abrasive workpiece materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides a balance of hardness and toughness for demanding applications. Machinists and tool and die professionals are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is rated for a broad range of workpiece material codes including H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering tool steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, low-carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. The single-end, regular-length configuration fits standard CNC machining center tool holders and manual milling machine setups. It is commonly used in mold and die work, aerospace component machining, and general precision part manufacturing where ball-nose profiles are required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 0.25 inch shank ball end mill applications in CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting 1/4 inch straight shank tooling. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the SGS Series 5B product family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the 0.25 inch shank fully into the collet or tool holder and torque to the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to confirm proper seating and avoid premature edge wear.
