The SGS 30802 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in CNC machining and manual milling operations. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 0.5 inch shank. The three-flute spiral design paired with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish delivers improved wear resistance and chip evacuation compared to uncoated tooling. Micrograin carbide construction supports tight tolerances and consistent performance across a range of workpiece materials. This tool is centercutting, allowing it to plunge directly into a workpiece.
The SGS 30802 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous materials including steel, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, and superalloys, as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is built for regular-length applications in production shop environments and job shops where a reliable, general-purpose square end mill is needed. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional spindle rotation. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and helps manage chip load across the full length of cut.
Designed as a standard straight-shank end mill compatible with 0.5 inch collets, ER-style chucks, and end mill holders used on vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with toolholder torque requirements and runout specifications. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or changing tooling. Clean the shank and holder bore of chips and coolant residue before seating the tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping to confirm the tool is properly seated before beginning a cut.
