The SGS 30786 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length with a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute spiral geometry combined with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) finish supports efficient chip evacuation and extended tool life. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for demanding cuts. This is a centercutting end mill, enabling direct plunge entry into workpieces. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool in the SGS Series 5 lineup.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on a broad range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-metallic materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for regular-length slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling tasks on CNC machining centers and manual mills in job shop, production, and toolroom environments. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action across these material groups.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the supplier specification, covering cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-metallic materials. Accepts standard 1/4 inch tool holders and collets.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the tool holder. Use a properly sized ER or equivalent collet matched to the 1/4 inch shank diameter and torque the collet nut per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and shank for chips or runout before beginning a cut.
