The SGS 30508 is a single-end ball end mill designed for precision milling of contoured surfaces, slots, and complex 3D profiles. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it offers the rigidity and wear resistance required for demanding metal-cutting applications. The 0.0625-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 30-degree helix angle and three right-hand spiral flutes to promote chip evacuation and maintain stable cutting action. With a length of cut of 0.1875 inches and an overall length of 1.5 inches, this tool fits standard toolholders accepting a 0.125-inch shank. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC operators working in job-shop and production environments.
The SGS 30508 is suited for milling operations on a range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, non-metallic materials, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its regular-length profile makes it appropriate for general-purpose CNC vertical milling, die-and-mold work, and close-tolerance part features where a small-diameter ball nose is required. The uncoated micrograin carbide substrate performs well when paired with appropriate cutting fluids or in dry cutting conditions as determined by the machinist.
The SGS 30508 belongs to the Series 5B product line and accepts a 0.125-inch shank, fitting standard collet chucks and end mill holders designed for that shank diameter. Applicable to workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Before tool changes, confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the 0.125-inch shank fully into the collet or toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cutting, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a small-diameter carbide tool.
