The SGS 30505 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding applications. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed when cutting hardened and abrasive workpiece materials. The 3/64 inch (0.0469 inch) mill diameter paired with a 7/64 inch (0.1094 inch) length of cut makes this tool well suited for fine-detail slot milling, profiling, and plunge work in tight geometries. Three flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix promote chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish. The straight cylindrical 1/8 inch shank fits standard collet toolholders. This is a single-end, bright/uncoated tool in the SGS Series 5 line.
This end mill is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece material groups, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, long-chipping steels, and high-temperature alloys (material codes H, K, M, N, P, S). Its regular-length geometry keeps deflection low in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and multi-axis setups where small-diameter tools are run at high spindle speeds. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with intricate part features will find the 1-1/2 inch overall length manageable in confined fixturing environments.
Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the supplier specification. Designed for use in standard 1/8 inch collet toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank, as micrograin carbide tools are sensitive to lateral loading. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the 3/64 inch diameter before engaging the cut. Avoid side-loading or interrupted cuts that exceed the tool's rated geometry, as carbide is brittle and prone to chipping under shock loads.
