The SGS 30160 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 0.4688-inch cutting diameter, 4-flute geometry, and a 30-degree helix angle, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes in profiling, slotting, and contouring applications. The variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, improving tool life and dimensional accuracy. Built from micrograin carbide stock, it holds tight tolerances — diameter tolerance of +0.000 to -0.002 inches — making it a reliable choice for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working to close-tolerance specs.
This end mill fits standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills with a 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder. It is well-suited for milling cast iron, steel alloys, non-ferrous metals, aluminum, superalloys, and high-temperature materials. The single-end, right-hand cut configuration makes it straightforward to index and replace in production environments. Its regular-length body keeps it rigid in moderate-depth applications where reach is not a constraint.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide ball end mill for 1/2-inch collet holders and end mill chucks on standard CNC and manual milling machines. Compatible workpiece material codes per supplier data: H, K, M, N, P, and S material groups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or changing end mills. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening; do not clamp on the fluted section. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting to confirm the tool is within acceptable concentricity limits before initiating a cutting cycle.
