The SGS 30157 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 29/64 inch (0.4531 inch) cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 3 inches. The four-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle and variable index promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter. Micrograin carbide construction provides the hardness and wear resistance required for demanding cuts. The centercutting design allows for plunge entry. This tool is uncoated and ground right-hand cut with right-hand flute orientation.
The SGS 30157 is suited for milling applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including cast iron, aluminum, copper alloys, titanium, and stainless steel, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a regular-length tool appropriate for general-purpose slot milling, profiling, and side milling in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically select this tool for medium-duty work requiring close diameter tolerances.
Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in standard material coding, covering cast iron, non-ferrous metals, copper alloys, titanium alloys, stainless steel, and steel. Fits any tool holder or collet accepting a 1/2 inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with CNC or manual milling equipment. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the collet or end mill holder and tighten to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish.
