The SGS 02657 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.078-inch cutting diameter and a 0.39-inch length of cut, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The four-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. An AlTiN coating increases surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life under high-speed cutting conditions. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention required for demanding machining environments. This end mill is single-end and centercutting, allowing plunge entry as well as standard peripheral milling.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers, manual mills, and precision production environments where small-diameter tooling is required. The 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collet systems and tool holders designed for 1/8-inch shank tooling. It is commonly used in die and mold work, aerospace component machining, medical device manufacturing, and general precision part production where fine detail and close tolerances are essential. The extended length type designation and 2.5-inch overall length provide additional reach for deeper pocket or slot milling within its rated length-of-cut range.
Designed for use in standard 1/8-inch collet chucks and compatible tool holders on CNC and manual milling machines that accept straight cylindrical shank tooling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle stopped. Ensure the collet and tool holder are clean and free of debris before seating the shank to the correct depth. Verify runout after installation using a dial indicator before beginning a cutting operation. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards for small-diameter carbide tooling.
