The SGS 01883 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal, composite, and plastics. It features a 1 mm cutting diameter with a 0.1181-inch length of cut and a 2-flute, right-hand spiral geometry that promotes efficient chip evacuation at small diameters. The bright, uncoated finish makes it well suited for non-ferrous metals and applications where coating interaction is a concern. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style of micro end mill for slotting, profiling, and pocketing in tight tolerances. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and wear resistance needed at this diameter.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and high-speed spindle applications requiring fine detail work. The 1/8-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collets widely used in both production and job-shop environments. It is a single-end, regular-length tool appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth-of-cut scenarios where runout control and tool concentricity are critical. Applications include precision mold work, engraving, and micro-feature machining.
Designed as a standard-geometry micro square end mill for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with 1/8-inch collets or collet chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated. Seat the shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet and tighten to the collet manufacturer's specified procedure using appropriate wrenches. At 1 mm diameter, runout at the tool tip must be minimized — inspect collet condition and concentricity before use. Discard the end mill if chipping, breakage, or measurable diameter wear is observed, as re-sharpening at this diameter is not practical.
