The SGS 00587 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. With a cutting diameter of 0.025 inches and a length of cut of 0.125 inches, this tool is built for micro-scale milling where tight tolerances and dimensional accuracy are critical. The micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and wear resistance needed when cutting hardened or abrasive materials. Four flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix deliver efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a smooth surface finish. Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry, expanding its versatility on the shop floor. Machinists and toolmakers specify this end mill for fine-feature work on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill suits applications in aerospace, medical device, mold and die, and precision instrument manufacturing where small-diameter, high-accuracy cuts are required. The bright, uncoated finish makes it a practical choice for non-ferrous metals, plastics, and other materials where coated tooling is unnecessary or cost-prohibitive. The 0.125-inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collets and tool holders sized for 1/8-inch tooling. Its extended-length classification at 2.5 inches overall length provides access to recessed or deep-pocket features that shorter tooling cannot reach.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with collets or tool holders accepting a 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power off or in an e-stop state. Confirm collet size matches the 0.125-inch shank diameter and that the collet and tool holder are clean and free of debris before seating the tool. At 0.025 inches in diameter, this end mill is extremely fragile — apply conservative feed rates and axial depths of cut appropriate for micro tooling, and avoid excessive runout in the tool holder. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting up and running micro end mills.
