The SGS 00336 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in tight-tolerance applications. Built from micrograin carbide, this 2-flute stub-length tool measures 0.04 inches in cutting diameter with a 0.0625-inch length of cut and a 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank. The overall length is 1.5 inches. The spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation in small-diameter profiling and slotting operations. The uncoated finish makes it well-suited for use in non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials where a coating is not required or preferred.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and precision tool rooms handling small-feature work. Its stub-length classification provides added rigidity compared to standard-length tools, reducing deflection during fine profiling, slot milling, and step milling operations. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional spindle rotation. Machinists and toolroom operators working on detailed components with small features or narrow slots will find this geometry appropriate for that work.
Designed as a Series 1620 solid carbide square end mill for use in any machine tool spindle accepting a 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank, including standard ER collet and end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the 0.125-inch shank in a properly sized, clean collet or end mill holder to ensure runout is minimized — runout is especially critical at this diameter. Inspect the cutting edge before each use, as micrograin carbide tools at this size are brittle and can chip if mishandled or dropped. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for appropriate feed rates and spindle speeds for the specific workpiece material.
