The SECO 75072173 is an indexable square-shoulder end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built around the R417.19 cutter style, this tool features a 1-inch cutting diameter and a maximum depth of cut of 0.31 inches. It accepts one SPMX 0903 series insert secured by a screw-style insert-holding method, making insert changes fast and repeatable. The Weldon flat shank measures 1 inch in diameter and 3.54 inches in length, providing secure tool holding in compatible end mill holders. With a maximum spindle speed of 22,500 RPM and a 90-degree lead angle, this tool is suited for full square-shoulder milling passes with accurate 90-degree wall geometry.
This end mill is used in CNC milling operations for face milling, shoulder milling, and slotting where a true 90-degree shoulder is required. It is a two-flute configuration with a single insert seat, making it well suited for lighter-duty square-shoulder cuts in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials. The tool does not include through-spindle coolant capability. Machinists and tooling setters working with horizontal and vertical machining centers will find this a straightforward drop-in toolholder for compatible insert grades. Overall length is 5.12 inches.
Compatible inserts include SPMX 090304, SPMX 0903AP, and APT-series inserts. ISO designation for this tool body is R417.19-01.00-3.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using a standard Weldon-style end mill holder sized for a 1-inch shank. The machine spindle must be powered down and the tool fully stopped before any insert change or tool change procedure. Torque the insert-retention screw to the tool manufacturer recommendation referenced in the SECO tooling catalog for SPMX 0903 inserts. Verify tool runout with a dial indicator after clamping before initiating a cut.
