The SECO 74079737 is a solid carbide trigon milling insert in the 218.19-160 series, designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations. It carries manufacturer grade F30M with a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN, delivering thermal resistance and wear durability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.1874 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.4402 inches and a corner radius of 0.0472 inches. Three cutting edges on a single-sided, neutral-hand body maximize tooling value per insert. A positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a T-Land cutting edge style reduce cutting forces and improve chip control. Licensed machinists and CNC tool setters are the primary installers of this consumable.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hard materials in both roughing and semi-finishing passes. The M08 chip breaker geometry is optimized for moderate chip loads and feed rates across universal workpiece material categories coded H, K, M, N, and P. It fits cutter bodies in the R218.19-32, R217.21-R160, and R220.21-R160 series and is held in place by a screw-style clamping method. Applications span general-purpose machining centers in job shop and production environments where a single insert geometry must handle multiple material families.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the screw-clamp seat; do not overtighten the clamping screw beyond manufacturer torque guidance found in the cutter body documentation. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw for damage or debris before seating the insert. Index or replace the insert at first sign of edge wear to prevent workpiece damage and cutter body wear.
