The SECO 74078309 is a WNMG431-MF3 grade TP40 solid carbide turning insert designed for metal cutting operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal protection. The insert has a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0157 inch corner radius, and an 80-degree trigon shape with a negative rake angle. With 6 cutting edges and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent performance across high-volume turning cycles. Machinists and CNC operators working with steel and stainless steel stock will find this insert well suited to production environments.
This insert is intended for use in steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials, covering material grades P40, M35, and M40. It supports boring, facing, and turning operations, making it a versatile single insert for multiple lathe tasks. The MF3 chip breaker geometry is designed for medium finishing passes. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock toolholders. The insert carries both ANSI and ISO designations and is identified by ISO code WNMG080404-MF3 and industry standard number WNMG431-MF3.
Designed for use with WNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention. Compatible with ISO P and ISO M workpiece materials including carbon steel and stainless steel. Suitable for boring, facing, and turning operations. ISO code WNMG080404-MF3 applies for international toolholder cross-reference.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamping mechanism, and inspect the pocket for chips or debris that could cause seating errors. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.3346 inches as stated in the product data.
