The SECO 74018810 is a solid carbide milling insert identified by ANSI and ISO code APKT1604PDR-E12, designed for indexable milling operations in metalworking applications. The insert features an APKT parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, a positive rake angle of 22 degrees, and an 11-degree relief angle. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide in an uncoated bright finish, the insert measures 0.375 inches wide, 0.6476 inches in cutting edge effective length, and 0.1874 inches thick. It carries the HX manufacturer grade and uses a screw-holding method for secure seating in the cutter body. The E12 chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style make it well-suited for controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for primary use on non-ferrous metals and is also suited for cast iron, superalloys, and titanium as secondary workpiece materials. It is a right-hand insert with two cutting edges on a single-sided configuration, offering a maximum depth of cut of 0.622 inches. The insert is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-16 and R220.69-16, making it a direct fit for those milling bodies without modification. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians following standard indexable insert procedures. Before seating or indexing the insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per shop LOTO procedures. Clean the insert pocket and seating surfaces before installation to prevent seating errors that can affect runout and surface finish. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer specification; do not over-tighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamp force.
