The SECO 74018470 is a CNMG 432-M3 indexable turning insert engineered for general-purpose metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. Manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating sequence of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, the insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. It features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.1874 inch thickness, and a 0.0315 inch corner radius. The M3 chip breaker geometry uses a chamfered and honed cutting edge style suited for medium-duty operations. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it offers a cost-effective tooling option for production machining environments. Installed by CNC machinists and tool-room technicians.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The TP40 grade and multilayer CVD coating make it appropriate for P40 and M35/M40 material grades under ISO classification codes P and M. A negative rake geometry and neutral hand orientation allow it to seat in standard CNMG-style toolholders. The M3 chip breaker performs well in medium feeds and depths of cut, making it a practical choice for general production turning where consistent chip control is required.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Use the appropriate torque tool for the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body.
