The SECO 74004037 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the TCMT style, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius for sharp, consistent edge geometry. The insert uses a positive rake angle and F1 chip breaker configuration, making it well suited for finishing and light-to-medium material removal on difficult-to-machine metals. It is installed via screw holding method and provides three usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is primarily intended for machining superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials as indicated by secondary workpiece material codes M, K, N, and H. Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations in aerospace, energy, and high-performance manufacturing environments. The F1 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in tight-tolerance setups. Material grades S10, S20, and S25 indicate the grade range for this uncoated carbide substrate.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Verify seating in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
