The SECO 17016595 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance, this tool handles heavy stock removal where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 7/8 inch (0.8750 inch decimal) cutting diameter, five-flute configuration, and 30-degree maximum helix angle work together to break chips efficiently and reduce chatter during roughing passes. It is right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction and is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry when needed.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in job shops, maintenance machining, and production environments where cobalt tooling is specified for stainless steels, tool steels, nickel alloys, and other hard materials. The long-length series (REC700) with a 3.5 inch length of cut and 5.75 inch overall length provides reach for deeper pockets and stepped features. The 3/4 inch shank diameter fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders commonly found on vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as manual knee mills.
Designed as a standard single-end roughing end mill with a 3/4 inch shank, compatible with ER collet chucks, Weldon side-lock holders, and hydraulic toolholders sized for 3/4 inch shank diameters on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per OSHA and facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is seated to the full recommended engagement depth in the toolholder and that set screws or collet nuts are torqued using the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the collet or chuck bore for runout before securing this tool, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on roughing geometry. Do not exceed the machine spindle's rated speed for the tool diameter and material combination being cut.
