The SECO 17016589 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for improved wear resistance and heat tolerance, this end mill measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 2.5-inch length of cut and a 4.625-inch overall length. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle delivers efficient chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this geometry for high-stock-removal operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This roughing end mill is suited for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling equipment where high metal removal rates are required. The 5/8-inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, making it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders of that bore size. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry. It is part of the REC700 series, intended for production roughing in shop environments where tool life and cut efficiency are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 5/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling fixtures rated for cobalt HSS tooling in production roughing applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the set screw or collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and coating for chips or wear before each use; do not run a damaged end mill at full depth of cut.
