The SECO 17016587 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it delivers strong wear resistance and heat tolerance during heavy cuts. The mill measures 9/16 inch (0.5625 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch shank diameter, a 1-3/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-3/8 inch overall length. Four right-hand flutes with a right-hand cutting direction make it suitable for climb or conventional milling on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled start hole.
This end mill is used in manual and CNC vertical milling operations across job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The REC700 series roughing profile is suited for hogging cuts on steel, stainless steel, and other tough alloys where stock removal rate matters more than surface finish. It is typically selected for roughing passes before a finishing end mill is run, reducing cycle time and tool wear on the finishing tool. The single-end configuration and standard shank geometry make it compatible with common milling chucks, collet holders, and shrink-fit toolholders sized for a 1/2 inch shank.
Designed for use in 1/2 inch shank milling toolholders including collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders. Suitable for milling ferrous alloys and other materials consistent with M42 cobalt tooling applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Seat the 1/2 inch shank fully and evenly in the toolholder before tightening to prevent runout. Verify spindle speed and feed rate settings match the workpiece material and cut depth before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges and coating before each use and replace the tool if chipping or excessive flank wear is observed.
