The SECO 17016441 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for extended wear resistance, this tool handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. It measures 1 inch in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut and a 4-1/2-inch overall length. The 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece.
This end mill is suited for short-reach milling operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills across job shop, production, and maintenance environments. The 1-inch shank diameter fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders common in both horizontal and vertical spindle setups. It performs well in slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling cuts on steel and stainless components. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration matches standard spindle rotation on most machines. The SPC408 series is positioned for general-purpose to moderate-difficulty workpieces where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness in interrupted cuts.
Compatible with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The 1-inch shank fits standard toolholders accepting 1-inch straight shanks on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts — maximum TIR for this tool is specified at 0.001 inches. Ensure the toolholder is clean and free of chips or burrs before clamping to maintain concentricity.
