Product Description

The SECO 17016416 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built to M42 cobalt high-speed steel grade, it carries a TiCN coating that extends tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. The 7/16 inch diameter cutting edge runs 1 inch long, with a 3/8 inch shank and a 2-11/16 inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle provide efficient chip evacuation. This is a single-end, centercutting design, meaning it can be plunged directly into the workpiece without a pilot hole. It is a short-length series tool suited for general-purpose milling on machining centers and manual mills.

This end mill is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. It fits standard 3/8 inch toolholding systems including collet chucks and end mill holders. The short-length geometry keeps deflection low in standard depth-of-cut applications. It is well suited for slot milling, profiling, and step milling operations where rigidity and tool life in difficult materials are the priority. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users in shop and production environments.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt steel construction for improved heat and wear resistance over standard HSS
  • TiCN coating extends tool life in steel, stainless, and high-temp alloy applications
  • Centercutting design allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole
  • 4-flute right-hand spiral with 30-degree helix angle for efficient chip removal
  • Short-length Series SPC408 geometry reduces deflection in standard milling setups
  • Right-hand flute and right-hand cut — compatible with standard spindle rotation on most CNC and manual mills

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-specification single-end cobalt square end mill in the SECO SPC408 series, compatible with any 3/8 inch I.D. toolholding system including ER collets and straight-bore end mill holders on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or quill is locked before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully to the recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a test indicator before initiating a cut — this tool has a maximum TIR of 0.0010 inches as specified.
