The SECO 17016387 is a 2-inch diameter, 2-flute cobalt square end mill designed for material removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloy applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it provides elevated heat resistance and wear life compared to standard HSS tooling. With a 1-5/8-inch length of cut and a 30-degree helix angle, it delivers efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can be fed directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole. Machinists and toolroom operators working with tougher ferrous materials will find the SP205 series geometry well suited to roughing and general milling passes.
This end mill fits conventional knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC milling machines accepting a 1-1/4-inch straight shank. The stub-length profile keeps the tool short and rigid, reducing deflection during heavier cuts in steel and stainless steel. Right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional spindle setups. It is appropriate for job shops, tool and die, and maintenance machining environments where versatility across ferrous material families is required.
Designed for use in milling machines and machining centers with a 1-1/4-inch shank bore. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and high-temperature alloy (S) per ISO material classification. Does not include coolant-through capability or extended reach geometry.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a standard collet chuck, end mill holder, or Weldon-style holder sized for a 1-1/4-inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before mounting or removing the cutter. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the workpiece — maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0010 inches as specified. Consult applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for feed, speed, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material and setup rigidity.
