The SECO 17016203 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials with improved wear resistance and heat tolerance. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration at a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation during heavy cuts. With a 3/4-inch mill diameter and 1-5/8-inch length of cut, it is sized for stub-length reach in standard vertical and horizontal milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes in production machining environments where rapid stock removal is the priority. The stub-length geometry provides rigidity, reducing deflection during high-feed-rate cuts. Right-hand cutting direction pairs with conventional and climb milling strategies on knee mills, CNC machining centers, and manual mills. The 5/8-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collets, side-lock holders, and Weldon-style tool holders commonly found in trade shops. The TiCN coating extends tool life in hardened and abrasive materials compared to uncoated cobalt tooling.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for use with standard 5/8-inch tool holders on vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers. Part of the SECO REM445 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping to confirm proper seating before beginning a cut.
