The SECO 17016187 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials with consistent edge life. It features a 3/16 inch mill diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 3/8 inch shank diameter. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting under load. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This roughing end mill is suited for general-purpose roughing passes on ferrous alloys, stainless steel, and harder workpiece materials in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The smaller 3/16 inch diameter makes it practical for slotting, profiling, and pocketing in tight geometries where a full-size rougher will not fit. The 2-3/8 inch overall length keeps the tool rigid in short-reach setups, reducing deflection at higher feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 3/8 inch tool holders compatible with CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and similar milling equipment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention system per the tool-holder manufacturer specifications. Because this is a non-center-cutting end mill, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a pre-drilled entry point or a helical or ramping toolpath.
