The SECO 17015288 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and resists wear on tough workpiece materials. The 5/8 inch diameter cutter features four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle, producing a chipbreaker-style cutting action that reduces chatter and cutting forces during roughing passes. With a 3.125 inch length of cut and 5.25 inch overall length, this is a standard-reach tool suited for open-pocket and peripheral roughing operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is intended for roughing operations in job shop, production machining, and toolroom environments. It performs in materials such as alloy steels, tool steels, stainless steel, and other hard-to-machine metals where cobalt tooling is preferred over standard HSS. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility in ramping and pocketing applications. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with standard spindle rotation on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 5/8 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening; verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before changing tooling. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
