The SECO 17015189 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for heat and wear resistance, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials under high chip loads. The tool features a 3/4 inch mill diameter, a 4-1/8 inch length of cut, and a 6-3/8 inch overall length. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a regular length profile make it well suited for roughing passes in production and job shop environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking and manufacturing trades.
This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling operations where roughing cuts on steel, stainless, and similar alloys are required. The TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in interrupted cuts and side milling. The 3/4 inch shank diameter matches standard ER and side-lock toolholders commonly found in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The right-hand cutting direction and spiral flute geometry support conventional and climb milling setups. It is not center-cutting, so plunge milling is not a recommended application for this tool.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 3/4 inch bore milling toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines performing roughing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention hardware to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut, as excessive runout accelerates premature wear on cobalt end mills.
