The SECO 17014827 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiAlN, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and extends tool life in demanding applications. The 1/2-inch diameter cutter features 4 right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a 2-inch length of cut. The long-series geometry and chipbreaker-free profile make it well suited for roughing passes where stock removal rate matters more than surface finish. Licensed machinists and toolroom operators are the primary users of this end mill in both production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is intended for roughing operations on ferrous and hard materials where cobalt tooling outperforms standard HSS. The 4-inch overall length and 1/2-inch shank fit standard ER and straight-bore tool holders commonly found on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling equipment. Right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. It is sold as a single-end tool, meaning it is reground or replaced when worn rather than flipped. The long flute length supports deeper axial cuts in open-pocket and profile roughing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill compatible with standard 1/2-inch straight-bore and collet-style tool holders used on vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Installation and use of end mills should be performed by qualified machinists following shop safety protocols. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the tool holder and that set screws or collet nuts are torqued per the tool-holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chipping before each use; do not run a damaged tool.
