This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines for roughing operations on steel, stainless, and similar hard alloys. The bright uncoated finish is standard for M42 cobalt tooling and suits applications where coatings are not required or where regrinding is anticipated. Installation is performed by machinists using standard end mill holders or collet chucks rated for 1-inch shank tooling. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Because this is a non-center-cutting end mill, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a pre-drilled hole or a programmed ramp entry. Confirm shank runout with a dial indicator before beginning a roughing pass to avoid premature tool wear.
