The SECO 17014199 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it handles heat and wear better than standard HSS tooling, making it well-suited for harder workpiece materials. The 1/2 inch diameter, 4-flute configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes chip evacuation while maintaining a rigid cutting geometry. With a 1.625 inch length of cut and 3.625 inch overall length, it fits standard milling machine and machining center setups. The bright, uncoated finish is common for cobalt roughers used across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This end mill is intended for use in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills where roughing passes demand a durable, heat-resistant cutting tool. Right-hand cutting and right-hand spiral flute direction make it compatible with standard spindle rotation. It does not feature coolant-through capability, center-cutting, variable helix, variable index, or a chipbreaker, keeping the design straightforward for general roughing work in job shop and production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch collets, end mill holders, or Weldon-style holders on manual and CNC milling machines.
Installation and use of this end mill should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with milling machine setup and cutting tool safety. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool from any holder. Verify holder runout and collet condition prior to use, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear on cobalt roughers. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rates and depth of cut.
