The SECO 17013553 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for increased surface hardness and heat resistance, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials under high cutting loads. It features 3 right-hand spiral flutes with a high helix style at a 36-degree maximum helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. The 5/8 inch mill diameter and 2.5 inch length of cut make it well suited for slotting, profiling, and side milling on manual and CNC machining centers. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This end mill is used in production and job-shop machining environments where rapid stock removal is the priority before finishing passes. The TiCN coating extends tool life in medium-to-hard steels, stainless, and cast iron. The regular length configuration and 5/8 inch straight shank fit standard ER and side-lock toolholders commonly found on vertical machining centers and knee mills. It is a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn, the tool is replaced rather than flipped. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this style of rougher.

Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended insertion depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or contamination before seating, as debris will cause runout and premature tool wear.
