The SECO 17013499 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN for added surface hardness and heat resistance, this tool handles interrupted cuts and heavy chip loads that would accelerate wear on standard HSS tooling. The mill measures 7/8 inch (0.8750 inch) in diameter with a 3/4 inch shank and a 1-7/8 inch length of cut. At 4-1/8 inches overall length, it fits standard milling machine and machining center setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for this geometry when roughing steel, stainless, and other ferrous materials before finishing passes.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in job shop, production, and maintenance-and-repair environments. The 5-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining rigidity in the cut. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional CNC vertical mills and manual knee mills. It is a non-centercutting tool, so plunge entry is not recommended. Coolant-through capability is not included; flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cut zone is standard practice for this tool class.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill replacement for standard 3/4 inch shank collets and end mill holders used in vertical machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing tooling. Seat the 3/4 inch shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the holder manufacturer's specification. Because this is a non-centercutting tool, always use a ramping or helical entry strategy rather than direct plunge cuts.
