The SECO 17011736 is a single-end, 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for metal removal in demanding milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it well-suited for harder workpiece materials. The cutter measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3.25-inch overall length. The spiral flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The bright uncoated finish is standard for cobalt tooling used across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This end mill is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece.
This end mill is used in vertical milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills for slot milling, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. It is suited for work in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The 0.5-inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style side-lock holders common in production and job shop environments. It carries the Series SPC408 designation within the SECO lineup.
Designed for use in standard 0.5-inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and side-lock holders on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per the SPC408 series specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and torque the retention screw per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as the TIR maximum for this tool is 0.001 inches per spec.
