The SECO 17011715 is a single-end, four-flute cobalt square end mill designed for metal removal in general machining and toolroom applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it offers greater heat and wear resistance than standard M2 HSS, making it suitable for harder ferrous materials and interrupted cuts. The cutting diameter measures 0.3125 inches (5/16 inches) with a 0.750-inch length of cut, a 0.375-inch (3/8 inches) shank diameter, and a 2.500-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix and spiral flute geometry promote smooth chip evacuation, while the bright uncoated finish is well suited to applications where coating adhesion or re-sharpening cycles are a priority.
This end mill is engineered for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its usefulness for slot milling, pocketing, and profile work on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC lathes with live tooling. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry follow standard convention for conventional and climb milling setups. It carries the Series SPC408 designation, indicating a short-length configuration within the SECO product line.
Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S). Fits any machine spindle or toolholder accepting a 3/8-inch round shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Seat the shank to the full recommended grip depth in the collet or end mill holder and verify runout against the 0.0010-inch TIR maximum specification before beginning a cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection based on material and depth of cut.
