The SECO 17011709 is a single-end, square-profile cobalt end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous metal machining operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS, making it well suited for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. The cutter features a 0.250-inch mill diameter, a 1.750-inch length of cut, and a 3.562-inch overall length, with a 0.375-inch straight shank for use in standard milling chucks and collet holders. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces across a wide range of materials. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC machine operators in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance environments.
The 17011709 is applicable to milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. Its centercutting capability allows both plunge and peripheral milling moves. The bright uncoated finish is compatible with cutting fluids and suited to applications where coating adhesion or thermal load is not the primary concern. The Series SPC408 designation places this tool in a regular-length, fractional-inch family of cobalt end mills intended for general-purpose and semi-finishing milling work.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling chucks on vertical and horizontal milling machines and CNC machining centers. Rated for use in steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous (N), and high-temperature alloy (S) workpiece material categories per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or changing tooling. The shank should be seated to the minimum recommended insertion depth in the holder to maintain runout within specification — TIR maximum for this tool is 0.0010 inches. Confirm holder bore tolerance is compatible with the shank diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to -0.0005 inches before use.
