The SECO 17010845 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for high-material-removal applications in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, four spiral flutes, and a 3 inch length of cut, giving it the reach needed for slotting, peripheral milling, and aggressive roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish suits a wide range of work materials where coating adhesion is not a requirement. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. Licensed machinists and tool-room operators are the primary users of this style of end mill.
This end mill is suited for use on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC milling setups where high chip-load roughing is the objective. The Series REM445 designation places it in SECO's standard roughing geometry lineup. With a 5 inch overall length and a 1/2 inch shank, it fits standard R8, ER, or set-screw-style collet holders without adapters. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled or pre-bored entry point for plunge operations. Coolant-through capability is not present on this model.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch collet or set-screw milling tool holders on manual and CNC vertical mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before seating or removing the end mill from its holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the minimum insertion depth specified by the tool holder manufacturer. Shank diameter tolerance is -0.0001 to -0.0005 inches, so verify holder bore condition before use to avoid runout issues.
