The SECO 17010843 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suitable for cutting tough ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 0.5-inch diameter cutter features 4 spiral flutes with a right-hand cutting direction and a 30-degree maximum helix angle. The bright, uncoated finish suits a wide range of general-purpose roughing applications. With a 2.5-inch length of cut and 4.5-inch overall length, this tool handles deep-reach roughing passes in standard milling setups. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes on machining centers, manual knee mills, and CNC vertical mills where high metal removal rates are the priority. The coarse-tooth geometry of a roughing end mill breaks chips aggressively, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup compared to standard end mills. It is a regular-length, single-end tool, making it appropriate for conventional slotting, profiling, and peripheral roughing on steel, stainless, and similar alloys. Coolant-through capability is not present, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach for heat management.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill in the SECO REM445 series, compatible with standard 0.5-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-shank tool holders accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes should be performed only with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable safety procedures. Seat the 0.5-inch shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on roughing geometry. Apply external flood or mist coolant during operation; this tool does not support coolant-through delivery.
