The SECO 17010401 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it delivers durability and heat resistance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool features a 1-inch mill diameter, 5 spiral flutes, and a 3-inch length of cut, making it well suited for heavy roughing passes where chip evacuation and tool life are priorities. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard on this configuration. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is appropriate for use in vertical and horizontal milling machines as well as CNC machining centers. The regular-length geometry and 1-inch shank diameter make it a direct fit for standard ER and side-lock toolholders commonly found in job shops and production facilities. The 5-flute roughing profile generates a chipbreaker-style cut pattern across the full length of cut, reducing cutting forces compared to standard 4-flute end mills. It is typically used on steel, stainless steel, and other tough alloys where thermal resistance of M42 cobalt is an advantage over standard M2 HSS tooling.
Designed as an OEM-specification roughing end mill fitting standard 1-inch bore milling toolholders and collet chucks used in general-purpose vertical and horizontal milling applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, particularly for tight-tolerance roughing operations.
