The SECO 17010359 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance well suited to tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree maximum helix angle produces efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a stable cutting edge. At 0.25 inches in mill diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut, this is a compact tool sized for detailed roughing passes in tight geometries. It ships bright and uncoated, ready for use in standard cutting fluid environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on tools of this type for rapid stock removal before finishing passes.
This end mill is suited for use in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC milling applications where roughing passes precede finish milling. The 3/8-inch shank diameter accommodates standard collet and end mill holders found in most shop setups. The regular-length configuration and right-hand cutting and flute direction make it a straightforward fit for conventional milling setups. It is not center-cutting, so it is intended for side milling and peripheral cuts rather than plunge operations. No coolant-through feature is present, making it compatible with external flood or mist coolant delivery.
Designed as a standard roughing end mill for use in collet chucks, end mill holders, or hydraulic holders accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter in CNC or manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard tooling setup procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Verify collet or holder bore matches the 3/8-inch shank diameter and that runout is within acceptable tolerance before initiating a cut. This tool is not suitable for plunge entry into solid material; begin cuts from the workpiece edge or a pre-drilled hole.
