The SECO 17006980 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance finishing in demanding materials. It carries a 1/8 inch mill diameter, a 1/4 inch length of cut, and a 0.0200 inch corner radius, making it well suited for producing precise, radius-edged features in tight tolerances. The five-flute geometry is paired with a high-helix spiral flute design and an AlTiN PVD coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear life when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Overall length is 1-1/2 inches with a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. This tool is installed and run by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 17006980 belongs to the SECO S545R series and is designed for finishing operations on ferrous and high-temperature alloys. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry, and the right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are compatible with standard CNC machining center spindles. The short length type and normal pitch classify it as a general finishing tool where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It accepts standard toolholders sized for a 1/8 inch shank.
Designed for use with toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as specified by SECO material codes P, M, S, and H.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Confirm the toolholder bore and runout before securing the shank; the specified maximum TIR is 0.0005 inch, so a high-precision collet or shrink-fit holder is recommended. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the manufacturer-recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material, and verify that feeds and speeds are set for a five-flute tool at the stated length of cut to avoid tool deflection or chatter.
