The SECO 17005007 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for cutting carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials and similarly abrasive composites. It carries a CVD diamond coating applied by chemical vapor deposition, which dramatically extends tool life when machining non-ferrous and composite workpieces that would quickly wear uncoated carbide. The cutter measures 0.1875 inches in diameter with a 1.125-inch length of cut, a 3-inch overall length, and a 0.1875-inch straight shank. This is a single-end, right-hand cut tool with a four-flute spiral configuration and a 30-degree helix angle from the DIAL430 long series. It is used by machinists and CNC programmers working with composite fabrication and precision aerospace or industrial components.
This end mill is suited for production and prototype machining operations involving CFRP, carbon fiber laminates, and similar abrasive composite materials. The long-series body provides extended reach into deeper pockets and along taller workpiece profiles. The 30-degree helix and spiral flute geometry support smooth chip evacuation while the CVD diamond coating resists the high abrasion typical of composite cutting. The center-cutting capability allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. Micrograin carbide substrate adds toughness and edge stability at higher surface speeds common in composite machining.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines accepting a 0.1875-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece material designation is CFRP (material code C) as specified by the manufacturer for the DIAL430 series.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures followed per facility safety standards. Use a precision collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 0.1875-inch shank diameter to achieve the runout specification of 0.0005 inches TIR maximum. Verify tool projection and overhang before initiating a cut, especially given the long-series length. Always wear appropriate respiratory and eye protection when machining CFRP due to the hazardous nature of carbon fiber dust.
