The SECO 17004721 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from solid carbide with a TiCN coating, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for high-speed roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 5/8 inch diameter cutter features 3 right-hand spiral flutes with a coarse pitch, a 30-degree maximum helix angle, and a 45-degree chamfer at 0.025 inches chamfer width. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry. This tool is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC mills or manual knee mills where stock removal rate is the priority.
The 17004721 suits production and job-shop environments where roughing passes precede finish milling operations. The coarse-pitch flute geometry reduces chip packing in deeper cuts, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in steel, stainless, and similar alloys. With a 1-5/8 inch length of cut and 3-1/2 inch overall length, it fits standard side-lock, collet, or end-mill holders accepting a 5/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. No extended reach configuration is present on this model.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for 5/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank end-mill holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines requiring a single-end roughing end mill.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the holder manufacturer. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm feed and speed parameters match the workpiece material and coating specifications before engaging the cut.
