The SECO 17004663 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it handles high-heat cutting environments where tool life and edge retention are critical. The 1/4 inch diameter body runs four spiral flutes in a right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, with a fine pitch configuration and a maximum helix angle of 20 degrees. A 45-degree chamfer at 0.020 inches width adds edge protection. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC mills and manual milling machines.
The 17004663 suits roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the AlTiN coating provides oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 3/4 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length, it fits standard milling chucks and collets sized for 1/4 inch shanks. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive and reduces pullout risk during heavy cuts. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. Typical applications include pocketing, slotting, and profile roughing on production and jobshop parts.
Designed as a standard 1/4 inch shank roughing end mill suitable for use in milling chucks, collet holders, and Weldon-style set-screw holders sized for 1/4 inch tooling on CNC and manual milling machines.
This end mill is installed by machinists using standard tool holders compatible with 1/4 inch Weldon flat shanks. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Tighten set screws to the holder manufacturer's specified torque to engage the Weldon flat securely. Inspect the cutting edges and shank for damage before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when precision is required.
