The SECO 17004455 is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting 5/8-11 UN threads in both internal and external applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with an AlCrN coating, this tool offers high wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. It features 4 right-hand flutes, a 0.5000 inch shank diameter, and a 0.4700 inch cutting diameter. With 11 teeth per inch and a 1.25 inch length of cut, it handles full-thread-depth passes in a single helical interpolation cycle. Machinists and CNC operators use this tool in milling machines configured for helical thread interpolation.
This thread mill is suited for job shops, production machining cells, and toolrooms where a single tool must produce both internal and external 5/8-11 UN threads. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where AlCrN coating provides adequate lubricity and heat resistance. The minimum nominal diameter it will thread is 0.6250 inch. No through-coolant is available on this tool, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; compatible with 5/8-11 UN thread standards for internal and external thread milling with a minimum nominal bore diameter of 0.6250 inch.
This tool is installed by a machinist or CNC programmer into a collet or toolholder sized for a 0.5000 inch shank. The machine spindle and program must support helical interpolation for thread milling cycles. Verify runout at the toolholder before cutting to stay within the shank diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to -0.0004 inch. No through-coolant port is present, so ensure adequate external coolant flow is directed at the cutting zone during operation.
