Product Description

The SECO 17003799 is a solid carbide ball end mill from the SB335 series, designed for both roughing and finishing operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The tool measures 7/16 inches (0.4375 inches) in diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 2-3/4 inch overall length. Three right-hand spiral flutes with a 35-degree medium helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting across a range of workpiece materials. An AlTiN PVD coating enhances heat and wear resistance, extending tool life in demanding machining environments. This single-end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines operated by machinists and toolroom professionals.

The SB335 series ball end mill is built for short-length applications where rigidity is critical. The 7/16 inch Weldon flat shank provides secure tool holding and minimizes runout, with a maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, making it suitable for profiling, contouring, slotting, and 3D surface work in steel and cast iron as well as aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. It is well suited to production environments where consistent dimensional accuracy is required across repeated operations.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and wear resistance in metal cutting
  • AlTiN PVD coating rated for elevated temperatures in steel and cast iron applications
  • 3 right-hand spiral flutes with 35-degree medium helix for efficient chip flow
  • Centercutting design allows direct plunge entry without pre-drilling
  • Weldon flat shank reduces tool pullout risk during aggressive cuts
  • Compatible with steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials

Compatibility

Designed for use on CNC and manual milling equipment with standard 7/16 inch tool holders or Weldon-flat-style collet chucks. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys per material codes P, K, and N.

Installation Notes

Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle powered down and locked out. Use a calibrated torque wrench when tightening the Weldon flat setscrew to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at setup using a dial test indicator before commencing any cut. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and depth of cut being applied.
